A
unique intervention in providing ICT-assisted knowledge-delivery
services in rural India, the LifeLines programme has over the 3 years
of its implementation, fostered a process of creating and enriching
shared value for its stakeholders, who range from a rural farmer at the
last mile to a village school teacher to civil society agencies
facilitating the service on the ground to private sector partners
supporting the project.
OneWorld is now focussed on forging new
partnerships to explore the potential of the innovative LifeLines
platform to other applications.
Endowed with a versatile and
dynamic attribute, the LifeLines system can be customized and adapted
locally for information sharing in other geographical regions and
sectors. Basing on this strength, LifeLines envisions to attain
coverage of 10000 villages and 15 million users by 2010 - extending
programme implementation to cater not only to agriculture and
education, but also related sectors like health, governance delivery
and entrepreneurship development.
Dialogues are in progress to
take LifeLines to new locations also beyond India. There are also
requests from the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka to replicate the
service in their countries.
